Science Fair Projects!!

We just passed a huge parental milestone:  our first school science projects!!!   Andrew and Hailey were in the Woodridge Elementary School’s Science Fair last Friday night.  We have been working on our projects for the last month and luckily, our outcome was a huge success!    The fair is optional for all grades except fifth grade, but I thought it would be fun to do it.  So, A&H were two of the four kids from their kindergarten class to join the Fair.

Andrew’s project had to do with CARS.  Surprised?  Of course not!  Our question was “What kind of cars drive in Woodridge?”   So, to answer that question, Andrew and I sat at the bottom of the hill for a very long time, tallying the brands of cars as they drove up the hill.  We got lots of funny looks from the neighbors, including one who tried to give us cash for our apparent homelessness!  Ha.

Then Andrew and Greg entered the data into the computer, made a lovely graph, and decorated the whole display board.  It was a hit and Andrew got so many compliments from the 250+ visitors to the science fair.

Hailey’s project was equally fun.  We decided to track what flavor of frozen yogurt customers choose at Yogurtland (our favorite hangout).   I was soooo proud of Hailey as she took on a very brave task of standing in a crowd of customers, boldly watching their every move.   She stood there with her clipboard for so long.  One delighted older woman thought that Hailey was doing such a wonderful job that the woman just handed Hailey two dollars.   That made her smile.   Great job, Hailey!   Hailey was very detailed and accurate about cutting, gluing, and assembling her display board.  Future scientist here!

I am so proud of Andrew and Hailey.    Next year…. THREE kids doing science projects!
